New in 2001, Lucifer soon became legendary for its street parades, with percussion and fire-breathers amongst the usual stilt-walkers and muscle boys. Lucifer has also had a gay night when it started, TOCA TOCA, every Friday. Unfortunately, just days into July 2001, Toca-Toca vanished in a poof of smoke... Towards the end of the season, a new gay gay night opened, on Tuesdays this time, but this also failed to establish itself... After a successful winter season as an afterhours club, cashing in on its close proximity to Pacha, the venue relaunched as Freek! at Lucifer for summer 2002. Once again, however, the venue was an early casualty of a quiet season and increased clubland competition.

The opening night atmosphere was, I'm told, electric, until the PA came on, and on, and on... All this was rectified by week two, and these Friday nights could have proved a draw for the gay crowd, if the promoters had given it time to establish itself and take-off.
