PARTIES

Though the majority of the mega-clubs (outside of San Antonio) have at least one gay or "polysexual" party a week, these are still predominantly straight affairs. Having said that, if you do want to give the legendary Ibicencen club scene a try at least once in your lifetime, but find the thought of thousands of twatted San An lager louts off-putting, the following pages should point you towards the best nights on offer. Hitting the right club, on the right night, may give you a fresh perspective on why so many people fall in love with the Ibiza club scene.

My favourite party has to be La Troya Asesina, at Amnesia every Wednesday night. This one is a must-do for the gay tourist, and it's genuinely worth planning your holiday around the opening and closing parties.

Unexpectedly, it was Manumission, the straightest of Ibiza's parties, that was my second biggest draw in 2002. Pacha's Scandal, my second favourite in 2001, failed to impress due in part to Pacha's exhorbitant pricing policies.

Kinky Trade would be high on the list yet again, but the plug was prematurely pulled on this excellent party, just as it was starting to make its mark at its new home of Amnesia. Trade's replacement at Privilege, Fernando's F*** House impressed with its music and shows, while new kid on the block Gorgeous pulled the gay crowd in, once it got settled into Angel's El Cel on Friday nights.

Space was my second home in 2002, as I didn't miss a single Carry On La Troya party, and made it to almost as many Carry On Manumissions and Matinée Group/Ministry Carry Ons!

This is not an exhaustive listing of all the parties by any means, just the ones I went to regularly.

One thing to remember about the days that the clubs take place. A Wednesday-nighter, for example, actually takes place from midnight on Thursday morning, and you're unlikely to go until several hours after that. So, the day you actually go to any club (other than after-hours clubs, Space and DC10) is the day after it is advertised as taking place... and things don't get much more Ibiza than that.

Try to collect as many of the club listing magazines as possible, as they've occasionally been known to get things right, and the more you get the greater your chances of getting some accurate information.

See you all in La Troya!
